These courses introduce key Buddhist concepts. Techniques taught in this series include breathing meditation, visualisation and meditative investigation.
The courses are based on Geshe Loden’s books, Essence of the Path to Enlightenment and Meditations on the Path to Enlightenment.

What is the most important thing for leading a happy and meaningful state of life?
Without question – our own mind. If our minds are too busy, too self-focused, too easily upset, we can barely find the space to get by, let alone find contentment and form warm and supportive relationships with others. On the other hand, if we can bring more calmness and mental clarity into our experience of the world, and allow our natural good heart to be a stronger force in our lives, our physical and mental wellbeing is greatly improved.
The most powerful method of developing positive states of mind and letting go of negative states of mind is meditation. Meditation has been practised for thousands of years, and in the Buddhist tradition, the methods for generating insight into our own mind, and developing it in a positive direction, take a central place. These methods can be learned by anyone, whether practising within any religious or philosophical tradition or not.
Drawing on the practical instructions from Venerable Geshe Acharya Thubten Loden’s most widely read book, Essence of the Path to Enlightenment, this course will give you a basic familiarity with the main types of meditation practice, presented within the Buddhist understanding of mind and its potential.
Each week’s session includes guided meditation and an introduction to concepts such as mind, living with change, happiness and its causes and cultivation of the attitudes of compassion and love. It’s intended for people new to meditation or those who are already familiar with it.
Classes are held in our beautiful peaceful Tibetan temple from 1.30 to 3 pm. Come along to any class in the series. Everyone is welcome. We’ve got comfortable seating including chairs and meditation cushions.
