THE FIVE FORCES – MEDITATIONS FOR LIFE

Online and onsite

The brief essential instruction is: blend the practice of one life with the five forces. Of the instructions on mahayana transference, the five forces are the most important practice.

Geshe Chekawa, Mind Training in Seven Points

Buddhism offers a wealth of traditions, teachings and meditation methods. How can we draw these together and bring them into our daily life? How can we really succeed in cultivating our positive qualities such as love, compassion and wisdom, and eliminating the obstacles to them? How do we become closer to enlightenment day by day?

The precious teachings of the five forces show us how we can practise the essence of the mahayana Dharma in real life. They give us a framework for sustaining our practice on a daily basis and maximising the positive potential of our lives.

And as we move through the various phases of life, the five forces show us how to approach the end of our life with confidence, peace and joy.

In this short weekend retreat we will explore teachings and meditations on the five forces. We will focus on the detailed explanation of this subject, drawn from the mind training teachings in Venerable Geshe Acharya Thubten Loden’s definitive text, Path to Enlightenment in Tibetan Buddhism.  (The explanation of the five forces begins at page 585.)

The retreat will be led by Martin Horan, a long time student of the Society’s Spiritual Head, Venerable Geshe Acharya Thubten Loden

Retreat information

Anyone is welcome to attend. The methods are presented in the framework of the Buddhist path to enlightenment, however many people find they can apply the meditations and philosophy to their own lives whether they consider themselves Buddhist or not.

Program

The retreat includes eight one-hour sessions, five on Saturday and three on Sunday. It will conclude with lunch around midday on Sunday. The sessions include explanation of the practice and guided meditation.

The retreat will be held on-site in the beautiful environment of the Peaceful Land of Joy meditation centre. Participants can also attend online.

On-site attendees may stay at the centre.  Participants can also attend on-site on a daily basis. However, staying on-site gives the fullest retreat experience.

The retreat is fully catered and there is ample opportunity during the session breaks to stroll and enjoy the peace of the centre’s beautiful gardens.
