Geshe Doga empowerment
On 17 May 2025, the Tibetan Buddhist society (TBS) was blessed by the visit of Venerable Geshe Lobsang Dorje Doga, resident teacher of the Tara Institute, Melbourne. Geshe Doga is a wonderful friend and supporter of TBS, and was an dear friend of Geshe Loden. Over 160 people attended the beautiful White Tara empowerment and blessing. Our heartfelt gratitude to Geshe Doga and the team of TBS volunteers that made this precious event so special.
Community meeting
The biannual community meeting of members, students and friends of the Tibetan Buddhist Society was held on May 31. Attended by 20, the meeting updated the latest news of Loden Rinpoche and considered the current communication strategies for the TBS website, social media outlets, newsletter and volunteer hub. As usual, lots of great ideas were generated. Next meeting will be November 15. All welcome!
Celebrating His Holiness’ 90th birthday
On July 6 TBS held a celebratory birthday lunch followed by prayers in the temple. Our homage to His Holiness can be found here and a report on celebrations in India here.
The image shows His Holiness in the Tibetan Buddhist Society temple during his 2002 visit. On that occasion His Holiness officially opened and blessed the newly constructed temple.
Autumn-Winter Retreats
From 8-14 June, Jean D’Cruz led a wonderful retreat on the Six Perfections, see her terrific blog on this topic here. Then on 19 July, Ven Anna Goldstein led a timely day retreat On cultivating joy in trying times which was attended by over 60 [CHECK] people.
Our next retreat starts 14 October, a three week Yamantaka retreat led by Tim McKibben and Michael Joseph. To register and attend this retreat you must have received prior empowerment specifically into the practice of Solitary Hero Yamantaka. More information can be found here.
Atisha Centre friends visit
In early July, Atisha Centre organised a prayer tour led by Geshe Rabten, of three Buddhist Temples in Melbourne, starting with the Tibetan Buddhist Society. TBS ordained sangha were invited to join the group, and several accompanied them on the day. TBS volunteers ensured that the visitors enjoyed a lovely morning tea.

Visit of His Eminence Ling Rinpoche
At the Tibetan Buddhist Society on Saturday Aug 9, His Eminence Ling Rinpoche blessed a packed temple of over 210 people (and a further 50 online) with wonderful teachings on Bodhichitta and Buddha Potential. On the following day a Medicine Buddha empowerment was offered to over xxxx people who attended the temple.
His Eminence’s presence was beautiful, gentle and powerful. A summary of the Saturday teachings can be found here [LINK].
