This year’s vajrayana retreat will be led by Tim McKibben and Michael Joseph on the highest yoga tantra practice of Solitary Hero Yamantaka. Both teachers received instruction on Yamantaka practice for many years from the Tibetan Buddhist Society’s Spiritual Head and Founder, Venerable Geshe Acharya Thubten Loden. Both have taught on this practice for many years.

To register and attend this retreat you must have received prior empowerment specifically into the practice of Solitary Hero Yamantaka.

The retreat will commence at 7 am on 14 September and conclude at 12.30 pm on 4 October.

The retreat is offered in 2 sections:

Generation and completion stage meditation practices: 14 – 20 September
Mantra recitation and the associated meditations, concluding with a fire puja: 21 September – 4 October

You may choose to attend the full retreat or either part alone.

Primarily a residential retreat, non-stay and online attendance options are also offered.

STAYING ONSITE

Accommodation will be in shared rooms, subject to registrations. Bathrooms are shared.

Your bedroom will be simply but functionally furnished with at a bedside table, chair, towel airer and heater. Your bed will be made up unless you opt to bring your own linen, and a towel provided. Please bring your own toiletries and other personal items.

Generally, students commencing the retreat on the first day (14 September) arrive in the late afternoon of the day prior (13 September) and have dinner at the centre. For example, if you opted to stay for the first week of the retreat commencing on 14 September, then your final night would be 19 September, and your final day would be 20 September.

The minimum on-site stay for this retreat is 3 consecutive nights and days. If you wish to attend less than this, please choose a non-stay option.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be prepared by a volunteer cook each day. Light refreshments will be available between sessions.

We are unable to cater for a range of preferential diets; however if you have an allergy or food intolerance (eg, peanuts) that we should be aware of please describe it below.

SADHANA, PRAYERS, AND TEXTBOOK

The Solitary Hero Yamantaka sadhana and prayers for the retreat, including Kyabje Phabongka Rinpoche’s “The Golden Dharma of Tibetan Buddhism” (short six session guru yoga), will be from Venerable Geshe Acharya Thubten Loden’s Ocean of Indivisible Method and Wisdom. Copies of the sadhana and the prayers will be available for students on the retreat, including students attending online (who will receive a soft copy).

The text for the retreat will be Venerable Geshe Loden’s Path to the Union of Clear Light and Illusory Body. For those attending the retreat onsite in the temple who do not have a copy of the text, we have some copies of the book available to use in the temple. While we are not able to provide copies of the text to online attendees, clear meditation instructions from the text will be given by the retreat leaders in the course of the sessions.
