Online introduction series

Finding serenity in a turbulent world

1.30 – 2.45pm – from Sunday 16 Aug – Sunday 20 Sept (except Father’s Day)

Many people are coping well with this pandemic era – eating well, plenty of exercise, staying connected, remaining productive.

For others the experience can be overwhelming with the 24/7 news and analyses and so much happening – job loss, ill health, family and friends unwell or passing, fear and anxiety, isolation, crowded and uncomfortable conditions.

Most of us are probably a mix of both. Everyone has their own story.

So what can we do to bring the situation into perspective, to create the space for more happiness – to reduce our suffering – to help us become more constructive for ourselves and others?

This course will explore some ideas from the Buddha to help us navigate these turbulent times with more peace and serenity.

Topics will include the deeper meaning of change, love and compassion for more happiness, different types of meditation, six qualities for cultivating inner peace and Buddha’s ideas for more comfortable and amiable living. Each session will include a talk, guided meditation and opportunity for questions.

Venerable Anna Goldstein

The series is led by Venerable Anna Goldstein, a long-time student of the Society’s founder, Venerable Geshe Acharya Thubten Loden.

Each session is from 1.30 to about 2.45pm. All are very welcome.

Path to Enlightenment online classes

– Sundays 4pm to 5.30pm

Generosity of spirit, pure ethical behaviour, calm patience, joyful exuberance, stable concentration and insightful wisdom. Who can honestly say these qualities wouldn’t improve their life?

After developing bodhicitta – the extraordinary mind of enlightenment, Bodhisattvas then engage in the six perfections to traverse the Path to Enlightenment.

Tim McKibben

However even for us ordinary folk, meditating on these six transcendent actions brings much personal benefit and helps us along the path.

Tim McKibben will explain the perfection of ethics, as presented in Geshe Acharya Thubten Loden’s masterwork ‘Path to Enlightenment in Tibetan Buddhism’.
