We have heard much about Geshe Loden’s generosity – to the monks in India, to children who visited him, to various charitable causes, and to his students.
What is less well known is how he would also rejoice in his generosity. He recorded the detail of his giving during his trips to India and would often reminisce about the offerings he had made and rejoice in them.
Geshe-la encouraged his students to also record their main acts of generosity and to sometimes reflect on and rejoice in them. He showed us that as well as creating positive actions, rejoicing in those positive actions is a simple but profound way to be deeply happy.
In Buddhism rejoicing is taught as a powerful method to generate positive karma, demonstrating the power of mind. Through the way he lived, Geshe-la showed us how to apply Buddha’s teachings.
