Fundraiser for bushfire relief

Closing date extended to 31 January 2020

We are extending the closing date of the Tibetan Buddhist Society’s fundraiser for bushfire relief due to the recent horrific fires in Victoria, with huge losses of buildings, lands, stock, wildlife, and human lives also lost.

The fundraiser commenced in early December and the closing date is now 31 January 2020.

More than $3000 has been raised to date, including $1000 donated by the Tibetan Buddhist Society. These funds will be donated 50/50 to the Red Cross and Port Macquarie Koala Hospital (NSW).

From now on, your donations will be allocated 50/50 to the Red Cross and Wildlife Victoria, to support wildlife affected by the Victorian fires. The funds will be forwarded to these organisations from the Tibetan Buddhist Society. As a result donations will not be tax deductible.

Red Cross

The Red Cross are supporting communities across Australia being affected by bushfires, including:

  • Supporting people at evacuation centres and recovery hubs
  • Psychological first aid to reduce trauma
  • Emergency assistance (including cash grants to people who have lost homes in these bushfires)
  • Supporting Red Cross volunteers and covering their expenses
  • Longer-term recovery programs in disaster-affected communities

Wildlife Victoria

Donations to Wildlife Victoria will be distributed to wildlife shelters and carers to help rebuild enclosures and equipment that have been lost in the fires so that they can continue their lifesaving work, and assist them to cope with the enormous number of animals that will need care in the coming weeks and months.

Looking after others

Our founder and spiritual leader, Venerable Geshe Acharya Thubten Loden, always emphasised the importance of looking after others, and he gave significant amounts of his own money over the years to support those affected by disasters and unfortunate circumstances in Australia and overseas.

The Tibetan Buddhist Society has donated around $1.3 million to many different local and overseas appeals.

How to contribute:

If you would like to contribute to this fundraiser, you can do this by way of cash, cheque or EFT (Tibetan Buddhist Society, BSB 083-347, Account number 02532-1679).

Please include your name with the donation for receipt purposes, and indicate it is for the bushfire appeal.
