Tibetan Buddhist Society - Brisbane Centre
The Brisbane centre has been in operation for more than thirty years. It is
located in an inner suburb of Brisbane. The aim of the centre is to be as
widely accessible as possible by its central location and by keeping costs to a
minimum. Contributions by attendees help to meet the overheads of maintaining the
centre.
Teachers
Meetings are generally led by the director of the centre, Charles Topp. Charles
is a long time student and former monk who has been teaching for over thirty years.
In his absence, a number of senior students conduct sessions.
From time to time, other teachers of the Tibetan Buddhist Society visit the centre
to give teachings, most recently the Ven. Toby Gillies.
Courses
Path to Enlightenment teachings:
Tuesdays 7.30: During these weekly sessions, students learn to explore three types
of meditative practice. Sessions begin with the simple practice of mindfulness meditation,
watching the breath. This is followed by a visualisation exercise using Guru Shakyamuni
Buddha visualisation and instruction on reflective awareness on one of a six-monthly
cycle of topics from the Path to Enlightenment.
Vajrayana classes and retreats
A small group meets twice a month to practise Vajrayana meditations, including Vajrayogini
and Yamantaka, by arrangement between the students.
