The Tibetan Buddhist Society continues the Tibetan Buddhist tradition in the West.
With centres in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and
Brisbane, the Society holds a variety of classes including instruction on how to meditate, Buddhist philosophy and advanced
Vajrayana practices. The Society's main centre is the Peaceful Land of Joy Meditation Centre
in Melbourne. Situated on ten acres of beautiful gardens, the centre is convenient both to the city and Melbourne's international airport.
With many of the Buddhist teachings existing only in the Tibetan language, the Society's publishing arm,
Tushita Publications, is producing a series of books on the essential Tibetan
Buddhist practices, meditation and philosophy. By maintaining links with the Tibetan refugee
community in India, and supporting their monasteries, the Society has provided significant assistance for them.
Tushita Publications was established to preserve the Buddhist teachings,
as passed through the great lineage masters to Geshe Acharya Thubten Loden.
Geshe-la places great emphasis on ensuring his books provide reliable translations and accurate
interpretations of the original Indian and Tibetan texts.

Path to Enlightenment 4.00 PM Sundays
In 2009 Geshe Loden will teach from the beginning of his foundation book, Path to Enlightenment
in Tibetan Buddhism. Over several years Geshe Loden has progressively taught the step-by-step
teachings of the Path to Enlightenment (Lam rim) text concluding with the final chapter on emptiness
last year. Now it is time to start at the first chapter again, which presents a great opportunity
for new and longer-term students alike to hear these profound sutra teachings directly from a living
Tibetan master. The special feature of the Path to Enlightenment is that it presents the essence of
all Buddhist teachings, and in particular explains how to apply these teachings to our daily lives.
These teachings are presented throughout the year. All welcome. More details...
The Fundamental Potential for Enlightenment – Mondays 7.30 to 9pm
Geshe Loden will commence teachings from his exceptional book, The Fundamental Potential for
Enlightenment. In his foreword to this book His Holiness the Dalai Lama said, “The Buddha’s
teaching on the fundamental nature of the human mind has always been a great hope and inspiration
for me. That the intrinsic nature of the mind is our ever abiding natural potential contradicts
the common notion that human nature is something negative…I am happy to know that the essential
points of these teachings are being made available to English readers…” Enlightenment is the
result of substantial and conditional causes. The substantial cause is the fundamental potential
for enlightenment, which includes the natural and developed potential, and this is what transforms
into enlightenment. The Fundamental Potential for Enlightenment reveals the potential to us and
through practice our mind becomes stable and confident about reaching enlightenment. During this
class Geshe Loden will also encourage debate and lead meditations. All welcome. More details...
